NAIROBI, Kenya, August 4 – The Business Bay Square Mall in Eastleigh witnessed a landmark event as AK’s restaurant opened its doors, attracting hundreds of attendees eager to experience the unique dining concept and enjoy a complimentary lunch.

Innovative Dining with Robot Waiters

Located on the ground floor of the mall, AK’s restaurant offers a groundbreaking dining experience. Customers are greeted and served by robot waiters, a novelty in Eastleigh. These robots, equipped with screens simulating faces, take orders and deliver food using trays built into their bodies, from which customers directly retrieve their meals.

A Year-Long Effort and Unique Decor

Ahmed Yusuf Kulane, the owner of AK’s, shared insights into the extensive preparations for the restaurant’s opening. He mentioned that it took over a year to prepare the space, which features unique decorations, including two waterfalls, an aquarium, and state-of-the-art furniture. Ahmed emphasized the restaurant’s commitment to providing high-quality service and a wide variety of international cuisines.

“Preparing all these decorations was not easy. It took almost a year. We shall be serving all kinds of cuisine,” Ahmed stated.

Employment Opportunities and Community Impact

The restaurant has created job opportunities for over 20 individuals from Kamukunji and other parts of Nairobi, who will work as waiters, cooks, and cleaners. This initiative highlights the positive impact of AK’s on the local economy and employment landscape.

Positive Reception from Attendees

The opening event was well-received by attendees. Hussein Ali, who attended the event, praised the taste of the complimentary lunch and the restaurant’s furnishings.

“The meat was tender and tasty, the rice was good, and I think this is one of the best restaurants around here,” Hussein said, also appreciating the restaurant’s decoration and seating.

Another attendee, Arafat Abdirahman, echoed Hussein’s sentiments, highlighting the ambience and the quality of the food served. “The lunch was delicious, and everything here looks classy,” he noted.

Eastleigh continues to attract both Kenyan and foreign investors, drawn to its vibrant business scene. The Business Bay Square Mall, where AK’s is located, is the largest in East and Central Africa and currently hosts over 40 eateries.
