Meta Launches New Monetization Features for Kenyan Creators

Meta Introduces In-Stream Ads and Facebook Ads on Reels in Kenya

Meta has announced the rollout of two new monetization features for eligible creators in Kenya: In-Stream Ads on Facebook and Facebook Ads on Reels. These new tools will enable creators to earn money by producing original videos and building their community on the platform.

Empowering African Creators

Moon Baz, Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey at Meta, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting content creators. “Every day, we’re inspired by the incredible African creators who use Facebook to tell their stories, connect with others, and bring people together. This expansion will empower eligible creators in Kenya’s vibrant creative industry to earn money, setting a high bar for creativity worldwide and making Meta’s family of apps the one-stop-shop for all creators,” he said.

Monetization Through In-Stream Ads

In-Stream Ads can appear before, during, or after on-demand videos, including pre-recorded content and recordings of previous live streams. The types of In-Stream Ads include:

  • Pre-roll Ads: Played before the video starts.
  • Mid-roll Ads: Displayed during the video.
  • Image Ads: Static images shown beneath the content.
  • Post-roll Ads: Played at the end of the videos.

Earning from Facebook Reels

Ads on Facebook Reels will be seamlessly integrated into original Reels, allowing creators to earn money based on the performance of their content while entertaining fans. This feature is designed to reward creators for their engaging and innovative content on the platform.

Eligibility and Compliance

Starting today, eligible creators in Kenya can start earning from their video and Reels content. To use these monetization tools, creators must:

  • Comply with Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • For In-Stream Ads, creators must also have a minimum of 5,000 followers.

Support in Multiple Languages

Meta has ensured support for these monetization features in over 30 languages globally, including Swahili, to accommodate the diverse linguistic landscape of the creators in Kenya.

This initiative by Meta is set to boost the creative industry in Kenya, providing new avenues for content creators to monetize their work and reach a global audience.
