Kalonzo: Azimio Will Oppose Any Attempt to Impeach DP Gachagua

Kalonzo Tells Gachagua Not to Fear Being Called a Villager

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that Azimio will not stand by and allow Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to be mistreated or face impeachment. Speaking in Ruiru on Friday, Kalonzo commended Gachagua for his courage and affirmed that he should be supported in fulfilling his mandate to the people.

“If they try to impeach Gachagua, we in Azimio will not allow it, and we will support him,” Kalonzo asserted.

Kalonzo also addressed the criticism directed at Gachagua, urging him not to be afraid of being labeled a “villager.”

“Politics is local, and Gachagua should not be afraid of being called a villager,” he said.

Additionally, Kalonzo criticized the government for its heavy-handed approach to demonstrators. He expressed his sorrow over the death of Rex Masai Kanyike, a young protester shot during the anti-Finance Bill protest on Thursday, and called for a swift investigation to ensure justice for Kanyike’s family.

“Let us have a moment of silence for our brother Rex Kanyike, who was shot and killed during the anti-Finance Bill protest,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo emphasized that the right to demonstrate is a constitutional right in Kenya, highlighting the importance of protecting this freedom.

DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, who was also present at the event, called on the Mount Kenya region to engage with other communities ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing concerns that the country is losing its way.
